Number 1: A folder knife

The thing is that most of folders don’t have is a protecting mechanism to keep them from folding back. When such an event occurs, your fingers could get a serious injure.

In addition to that, if that happens, the knife won’t help you to get out of the dangerous situation, it even makes things worst.

If you really like a folder knife, i would suggest you to pick a knife having a locking mechanism like the one in the picture below.

At the end of the blade, there is a c-clip. You turn 90 degree to prevent the blade from folding back.

Number 2: Knives having gut hooks

The idea of having a gut hook is to make initial cut for big animals. My point might not please most experienced hunters because they have to use these type of knives all the time.

The dangerous of having gut hook on the knives is that it can hook on your clothing or it can hook on your hand.

My advice is that if you want a gut hook knife, you should buy a specialty and bring it only when you need to.

Number 3:Knives having serrated edges

The reason i don’t like it is because it is very difficult to sharpen the knife when it gets dull.

Number 4: Knives having hollow handle.

Ask yourself the following question, is it worth putting few survival items in the hollow and compromising the strength of the knife ?

Number 5: Knives having too long blades

The survival knives having the blades from 4 to 5 inches are perfect for most of survival situations. You don’t need any longer that that.

In conclusion, for me, a perfect knife that i want is a sturdy one piece knife, full tang blade which the steel goes all the way through. The knife must have a nice squishy handle. Therefore it’s not gonna slip if it gets wet.

Be cautioned of designer knives, for example the bare grylls knife which is the best selling knife in the world. I don’t like it much. I think the steel is not good enough.

The bottom line is that be wary of any knives that relies on heavy promotions.
